Therapy dogs, often used in hospitals and nursing homes to comfort the sick, are also being used to help children improve their reading skills.
A local program, Furry Tails Reading Partners, runs a program every Monday evening at The First Presbyterian Church in Wilkes-Barre to help children who have difficulty reading. They also have additional programs monthly in several local libraries.
For this video feature story, I went to the Furry Tails Reading Program at the First Presbytarian Church on a Monday evening to capture video and audio of the dogs, handlers, parents and children in action. I also set up an interview with Helene Skopek, the program coordinator, at the conclusion of the program. I spent about 2.5 hours there, and I interviewed several parents, chilren and handlers, as well as Helene, and I also took video footage of the children reading to the dogs and handlers.
ReplyDeleteI used my iPod touch to record my voiceovers, and along with it I used the footage to create a movie in VidoPad Video Editor Professional. I found it easy to use and understand Initially I tried to use Sony Vegas Video Pro, while it was realativly easier to use, I had trouble sharing the files so decided to find another program.
